About the event

The West Africa Mining Security (WAMS) Conference will be held in Accra from 1-2 October 2024 hosted by Australian High Commission, Accra in conjunction with MS Risk and Australia-Africa Minerals & Energy Group (AAMEG).

West Africa Mining Security Conference 2024
Tuesday to Wednesday, 1 – 2 October 2024 at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel, Accra, Ghana.

The West Africa Mining Security Conference brings together academics, security practitioners, subject matter experts, and the mining industry to discuss regional security trends and operational challenges.

The conference provides an opportunity for mine management and security professionals to share current assessments of risk and best practice risk mitigation strategies.

Can payment be made in another currency?

Prices are quoted in USD, but payment will be charged in AUD only.

 

How do I make payment?

Payment in USD/AUD only via the online portal.

 

Are corporate rates for accommodation available?

Yes. Corporate rates have been offered to conference participants. Due to the anticipated heavy demand, we recommend you book early to secure your room.

To obtain corporate rates at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel Accra please advise the hotel you are attending the conference at the time of reservation.

Likewise, corporate rates have also been secured at the Accra City Hotel and the Lancaster Hotel, please let them know you are a conference participant at the time of reservation. No shuttle service will be offered to the Lancaster. The Accra City Hotel can be accessed by the Movenpick compound.

 

Are meals included in my registration fee?

Yes – You will be served with refreshments and lunch, for all the days you have registered and paid.

 

I have special dietary requirements – should I tell you about it?

Lunch and refreshments will be buffet style offering a wide selection.

 

Accessibility

The Hotel is fully accessible to all our delegates. Hotel facilities include accessible toilets, wheelchair access ramps, accessible parking spaces, specialist drop off points, and many others.

 

What language will the conference be held in?

English and French. Interpretation services will be available .

PAYMENT

The organisers reserve the right to refuse admission unless proof of payment is received.

 

SUBSTITUTIONS

Registered attendees may be substituted not less than one week prior to the event. Please notify via wams@dfat.gov.au

 

CONFERENCE WITHDRAWALS

Notifications to withdraw should reach the Australian High Commission no later than 16 September 2024 to receive a partial (50%) refund of the registration fee.  Notifications received thereafter will not be entitled to a refund.

 

ACCOMMODATION

All accommodation arrangements must be made directly by conference participants. To obtain corporate rates at the conference venue (hotel) please advise the hotel you are attending the conference at the time of reservation.

Likewise, corporate rates have also been secured at the Accra City Hotel and the Lancaster Hotel, please let them know you are a conference participant at the time of reservation. No shuttle service will be offered to the Lancaster. The Accra City Hotel can be accessed by the Movenpick compound.

 

VISAS

Visas are the responsibility of conference participants. ECOWAS nationals do not require a visa to enter Ghana. For most other nationals, including Australians, visas must be obtained in advance in the participant’s usual country of residence.

HEALTH & VACCINATIONS

It is an entry requirement to Ghana that travellers present a valid yellow fever vaccination card on arrival. Participants should also consider using malaria prophylaxis in Ghana where the disease is endemic. For further information on health and vaccinations, consult your medical professional or the World Health Organisation’s advice for travellers.

CHATHAM HOUSE RULE

The WAMS Conference is held under strict Chatham House Rule. Speakers or participants may not be cited publicly or in publicly available documents in relation to conference content.
